The lenses have closed, the votes are in, and the results of PhoThos 2026 are officially here!
This year’s photography math competition, organized by the Mathematics Department alongside the Erasmus+ Programme, was an incredible success. Students from all across ESO and Batxillerat—as well as our enthusiastic teachers and staff—turned their cameras toward the world to capture the “hidden” mathematics in our everyday surroundings.
This edition was a deeply meaningful one, held in special honor of Paquita Manonelles, the beloved teacher who originally pioneered this project. Looking at the brilliant creativity on display, her legacy of intersecting art and science is shining brighter than ever.
Math Meets Creativity
The jury, composed of teachers from the Mathematics and other departments, had an incredibly tough time judging the entries. The submissions didn’t just showcase stunning artistic quality, composition, and lighting, but also brilliant conceptual thinking.
From geometric symmetries found in nature to complex architectural patterns, the photos truly brought mathematical concepts to life. Crucially, the English mathematical titles provided by the students beautifully bridged the gap between visual art and academic theory.
And the Winners Are…
- Júlia Coll Bosch (1-2 ESO) Pentagonal puddle
- Max Mitjana Hidalgo (3-4 ESO) A Spiral Through Time
- Adam Bellahouel Sarabia (1-2 BAT) ARC You Seeing This?
- Montse Xiqués Coll (Professors) Geometric Bloom
Congratulations to all our talented participants! The winners of each category have been awarded their official Certificates of Achievement and a surprise Cultural gift voucher.
But the journey doesn’t stop here! The top photographs from each category (ESO 1-2, ESO 3-4, and Batxillerat) have now been automatically entered into the prestigious ABEAM Regional Competition to represent Institut Thos i Codina. We are wishing our champions the absolute best of luck in the next round!
